The Abaco Systems VIPC618 is a 6U VMEbus IndustryPack carrier that integrates IP modules into VMEbus systems through dedicated mechanical and electrical interfaces. It accommodates four single-wide or up to two double-wide IndustryPacks, each with 128 bytes of I/O space and adjacent 128-byte ID PROM space. The carrier occupies 1024 contiguous bytes in VMEbus short I/O (A16/D16) address space with configurable base addressing via shunt groups E3 and E7.
Technical Specifications
• Form Factor: 6U VMEbus
• IndustryPack Capacity: 4 single-wide or 2 double-wide modules
• VMEbus Interface: 1024 bytes in A16/D16 short I/O space; conforms to VMEbus Specification C.1 (IEEE P1014/D1.2 and IEC 821)
• IndustryPack Logic Interface: ANSI/VITA 4-1995 compliant
• Operating Frequency: 8 MHz
• Memory Mapping: A24 or A32 space, up to 8 MB per IP slot
• I/O Space per Module: 128 bytes with 256-byte offset intervals from carrier base address
• Interrupts: Two channels per IP module; 1:1 mapping to VMEbus IRQ levels via shunt or PLD selection
• Back-Panel I/O: 64 lines via P2 connector (all 50 pins from slot D plus 14 configurable pins from slot C)
• Front-Panel I/O: High-density shielded 50-pin subminiature D connectors (AMP LIMITE 0.050 series, part 749831-5) with latches for vibration environments
– Key Features
• Configurable carrier base address simplifies system integration
• Supports user and supervisor VMEbus accesses with read-modify-write operations
• Integrated fuse protection, RF filtering, and decoupling capacitance on all IP power lines
• Shielded connectors reduce EMI emissions
• Optional custom PLD programming for non-standard interrupt mappings
– Typical Applications
VMEbus-based industrial and embedded systems requiring flexible I/O, memory, and interrupt expansion through standard IndustryPack modules.
– Compatibility & Integration
Full compliance with VMEbus Specification C.1 and IndustryPack Logic Interface ANSI/VITA 4-1995 ensures compatibility with standard IP modules. The carrier supports both single-wide and double-wide form factors with integrated address decoding and interrupt routing.
