Agilent 81642A Untested Tunable Laser Source

The Agilent 81642A is a tunable laser source for optical component testing and characterization across the C- and L-bands. It delivers mode-hop-free tuning from 1510 nm to 1640 nm with ±0.015 nm absolute wavelength accuracy and 0.1 pm resolution. Output power ranges from greater than −3 dBm to +7 dBm with ±0.01 dB stability. The instrument features continuous wavelength tuning, 100 kHz spectral linewidth (coherent control off), and wavelength repeatability of ±0.5 pm typical. Tuning speed reaches 400 ms for 1 nm steps. The 81642A integrates into Agilent 8164A/B and 8166A/B mainframes and supports GPIB, RS-232C, and parallel printer interfaces. Panda-type polarization-maintaining fiber output is standard, with optional built-in 60 dB optical attenuator and connector configurations available. Internal and external modulation capabilities support digital modulation at 200 Hz to 300 kHz (internal) and 200 Hz to 1 MHz (external), plus analog modulation from 5 kHz to 20 MHz. Wavelength stability is ≤±1 pm over 24 hours at constant temperature. Output isolation is 50 dB typical, with return loss of 60 dB or 40 dB depending on connector option.
