The Eaton / MTL Instruments MTL5082 is a single-channel resistance isolator that transfers resistance signals from hazardous areas to safe areas with galvanic isolation. It accommodates 2-, 3-, or 4-wire RTDs and other resistance sensors conforming to BS 1904/DIN 43760 standards, making it ideal for Zone 0, IIC, T4 and Div 1, Group A hazardous locations. The module accepts resistance inputs from 10Ω to 400Ω with 200μA nominal excitation current and delivers isolated 2-, 3-, or 4-wire outputs in the same range. User-selectable wire configuration via onboard switches allows factory-set defaults (typically 3-wire) to be modified in the field. Output safety drive responds to open-circuit sensor conditions by upscaling to 420Ω nominal, meeting EN50020:1994 simple apparatus requirements. The isolator provides 250V RMS galvanic isolation between input, output, and power supply terminals. Temperature drift measures ±10mΩ/°C typical (0.01%/°C @ 100Ω), with response time to within 4% of final value within 1 second. Powered from 20 to 35V dc supplies, the module consumes 55mA at 24V, 65mA at 20V, or 45mA at 35V. DIN-rail mounting ensures compact integration in distributed control systems. The MTL5082 offers an alternative to the MTL5074 for applications where native resistance output is preferred over current-loop conversion.
