The HP 37724A SDH/PDH Test Set with Option 005 is a field-portable instrument for testing and verifying Synchronous Digital Hierarchy and Plesiochronous Digital Hierarchy telecommunications networks. It generates and analyzes SDH signals up to STM-4 (622 Mb/s) and PDH signals at 2 Mb/s, 34 Mb/s, and 140 Mb/s, with full control over regenerator section, multiplexer section, and path overhead bytes. Option 005 adds structured PDH testing capabilities and enhanced jitter and wander measurement functions critical for signal quality assurance. The test set stresses network equipment through error, alarm, and G.783 pointer movement generation to exceed CCITT standards, making it suitable for installation, acceptance testing, commissioning, maintenance, R&D, and production environments.
