The HP/Agilent 8712ES is a vector network analyzer operating from 300 kHz to 1.3 GHz, delivering two-port S-parameter measurements with full error correction. This integrated instrument combines a synthesized source, S-parameter test set, and high-dynamic-range receivers into a single platform for RF component characterization across design, evaluation, and production workflows.

– Measurement Capabilities
S-parameter characterization includes S11, S21, S12, and S22. Transmission and reflection measurements encompass gain, insertion loss, isolation, insertion phase, electrical length, linear group delay, return loss, SWR, and reflection coefficient. The analyzer supports nonlinear performance measurement including gain compression and AM-to-PM conversion. Frequency-translating devices are supported via broadband internal and external detectors. Optional fault location and structural return loss measurement (Option 100) enables cable and feedline system characterization, including identification of faults such as bends, shorts, or damaged connectors.
– Compatibility & Integration
The 8712ES operates with firmware revisions E.06.00 and above. Test software written for earlier models in the 8712/8714 family can be reused without modification.
