The ICS Electronics VXI-5524 is a register-based VXI interface module that bridges custom circuitry to the VXIbus, enabling rapid prototyping of specialized test and measurement instruments. This low-cost platform mates with a user-supplied PCB to form a complete ‘B’ or ‘C’ size VXI module, delivering immediate VXI compliance without designing an interface from scratch.
## Technical Specifications
**VXIbus Compliance**
• VXI-1 Revision 1.4 and VXI-2 compliant
• Extended Register-Based Device specification
**Digital I/O**
• 48 digital I/O signals arranged in three 16-bit registers
• Configurable per 16-bit increment as latched outputs or gated inputs
• TTL/CMOS compatible with 20 mA source and 40 mA sink capability
• 33 kOhm pullups standard; selectable 3.3V or 5V dc pullup voltage
**VXI Data Expansion Bus**
• 16-bit bidirectional buffered expansion interface
• Supports register, FIFO, and external logic circuit decoding
• Address range 0x20 to 0x38 hex for user expansion registers
**Trigger Architecture**
• TTL trigger inputs and outputs connected to paired VXIbus TTL Trigger Lines
• TrigIn# selectable to TTLTRG lines 0, 2, 4, or 6
• TrigOut# capable of driving TTLTRG lines 1, 3, 5, or 7
**Interrupt Handling**
• VXIbus interrupt capability with cause code reporting
• Three user-definable cause code bits latched on IRQ input
• Interrupt Control Register for line selection and enable management
**Electrical & Timing**
• Digital I/O and VXIbus logic: 3.3V with 5V tolerance
• 10 MHz clock selectable from VXIbus or internal oscillator
• Power: 5 Vdc @ 150 mA, -5.2 Vdc @ 45 mA, -2 Vdc @ 9 mA
## Key Features
Flexible signal conditioning with user-configurable digital I/O and multiple trigger line assignments enables deployment across diverse applications. The expansion bus removes architectural constraints for circuits requiring more than simple register control. Integrated pullups and logic level translation simplify integration with legacy and modern logic families.
## Typical Applications
Custom sensor interfaces, real-time data acquisition subsystems, relay and switch control modules, and equipment-specific measurement front-ends within VXI instrument racks.
