The IFR Aeroflex IFF-701 Transponder Test Set is a portable, battery-operated bench instrument for testing and troubleshooting aviation transponders and interrogators across multiple IFF modes. It performs both automated and single-test diagnostics to verify Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) system functionality, including Mode 1, 2, 3/A, C, 4, S, and E transponder modes, plus Mode 1, 2, 3/A, C, and 4 interrogator modes. The unit measures transmitting frequency, power, receiver sensitivity, and Minimum Trigger Level (MTL), with an integrated signal generator operating at 1030 MHz (DCXO controlled ±10 kHz). It supports Mode 4 code storage, interrogator auto-test with static and moving target simulation, and includes built-in self-test diagnostics. RS-232 control allows adjustment of pass/fail parameters. Operating from AC, DC, or internal batteries (~2 hours runtime), the IFF-701 is environmentally packaged for all-weather field and maintenance operations. An ITAR-compliant IFF-701Ti variant is available.
