Equipment info

The IFR Aeroflex SI-1404 Transponder Test Set is a depot-level test accessory for Mode S, ATCRBS, and Mode 4 IFF transponder verification in maintenance, production, and OEM certification environments. When paired with the ATC-1400A, it forms a complete SSR ground station simulator supporting MK10A, MK12, and MK12/Mode S transponders with parametric and protocol testing. Operating independently, the SI-1404 performs Mode 4 IFF testing, Mode S Level 4 interrogator simulation, and MOP (Minimum Operational Performance) tests required for RTCA/DO-181A certification.

Technical Specifications

Testing Capabilities
• ATCRBS, Mode S, and Mode 4 transponder simulation and measurement
• MK12/Mode S IFF transponder testing with comprehensive Mode S Level 4 and Mode 4 interrogator simulation
• Accurate measurement of transponder reply pulse parameters
• Mode 4 crypto simulation with external crypto interface support
• Extended squitter DF17 capability
• Interface with KIT/KIR/KIV devices or internally generated maintenance codes
• Performs MOP tests for Mode S transponder certification (in conjunction with ATC-1400A)

User Interface
• 40-column × 4-row alphanumeric LCD display with adjustable backlight
• 4×5 main keypad with directional cursor keys and slew knob for menu navigation
• Dedicated function keys and user-defined screens for custom test procedures
• Easy-to-use menus for rapid setup and parameter recall

Control and Measurement
• Precise control of ATCRBS, Mode S, and Mode 4 pulse width, offset, and amplitude
• Mode 4 disparity pulse control with sync source, delay, deviation, and pulse width selection
• Mode 4 reply type, sync source, delay, deviation, and triplet pulse width selection
• 4096 code encoder and altitude encoder with Mode Group delay support

Interfaces and Integration
• IEEE-488.2 GPIB and RS-232 connectivity for automated transponder and interrogator testing
• Two rear panel bus cables and three RF coaxial cables interface with ATC-1400A
• Configuration memory stores 5 complete SI-1404 setups
• Flash memory for firmware upgrades

Power Requirements
• AC Supply: 100–120 VAC or 220–240 VAC, 50–60 Hz, ±10% of nominal voltage
• Maximum Power Consumption: 48 W (180 W maximum with ATC-1400A)

– Typical Applications

• Third-line maintenance and depot-level transponder testing
• Mode S transponder certification per RTCA/DO-181A standards
• MK10A, MK12, and Mode S IFF transponder parametric verification
• Mode 4 interrogator simulation and protocol validation
• Automated test sequences via GPIB and RS-232 integration

– Compatibility & Integration

The SI-1404 integrates with the ATC-1400A Transponder/DME Test Set to form a complete SSR ground station simulator. It also operates as a standalone unit for dedicated Mode 4 IFF testing. Export is subject to International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR); sale restricted to the USA.
