Equipment info

The Keysight U8903B Performance Audio Analyzer is a benchtop instrument integrating spectrum analysis, oscilloscope functionality, and distortion measurement into a single configurable platform. Engineered for R&D, manufacturing, and service environments, it delivers ultra-low residual distortion (≤ –111 dB THD, ≤ –140 dB THD+N) and exceptional measurement accuracy across demanding audio applications.

Technical Specifications

The analyzer covers 5 Hz to 0.45 sampling rate (Fs) with measurement bandwidth options from 10 Hz to 96 kHz (standard) or 10 Hz to 1.5 MHz with the optional N3431A wide bandwidth module. A two-million-point FFT processes high-resolution spectral data when wide bandwidth is enabled.

Measurement range extends from <1 μVrms to 300 Vrms. Input ranges accommodate unbalanced signals (320 mVrms to 140 Vrms) and balanced audio (320 mVrms to 300 Vrms), with maximum rated input of 200 Vp at altitudes up to 3000 m. Amplitude accuracy is ±0.03 dB; THD+N and SNR accuracy (20 Hz to 20 kHz) both reach ±0.5 dB across specified input voltage ranges. Phase measurement accuracy is ±2°.

Residual noise measures ≤1.3 μVrms (20 Hz to 20 kHz bandwidth). True-RMS, quasi-peak, and peak-to-peak detection modes are available; true-RMS applies to signals with crest factor less than three.

– Key Features

• Configurable 2, 4, 6, or 8 simultaneous analog analyzer channels
• Digital audio interfaces: AES3/SPDIF (XLR balanced, BNC unbalanced, TOSLINK optical) and DSI (I2S, left justified, right justified, DSP formats via 25-pin D-SUB)
• Support for 8-bit to 24-bit audio data
• Balanced AES3/SPDIF levels 0.3–5.1 Vpp; unbalanced 0.3–2.5 Vpp
• Control via GPIB, LAN/LXI C, and USB
• VGA/SVGA video output
• HP 8903B code compatibility mode for seamless legacy integration

– Typical Applications

Audio device characterization, amplifier and speaker testing, distortion analysis, multi-channel audio signal measurement, and digital audio interface validation.

– Compatibility & Integration

HP 8903B code compatibility mode included. Control integration via GPIB, LAN/LXI C, and USB interfaces supports automated test environments and remote operation.
