The NI PCI-8330 to PXI-8330 MXI-3 Kit establishes a high-bandwidth, low-latency connection between a PCI-based computer and a PXI chassis. This kit comprises a PCI-8330 interface card for the host computer and a PXI-8330 interface module for the PXI chassis, interconnected via an MXI-3 cable. The MXI-3 technology implements a transparent PCI-to-PCI bridge, allowing devices on the secondary bus to appear as local devices on the primary PCI bus without driver modification.
Technical Specifications
Data Transfer Performance:
• Peak rate: 132 Mbytes/s
• Sustained rate: 84 Mbytes/s
• Serial data rate: 1.5 Gbit/s
Cabling Options:
Copper cables support distances up to 10 meters. Fiber-optic cables extend reach to 200 meters and provide electrical isolation. Daisy-chain and star configurations are both supported.
Bus Architecture:
Capable of controlling up to 255 buses. The MXI-3 ASIC implements signal retiming and timing maintenance between buses. Write posting and read prefetching enhance performance.
Physical Dimensions:
• PCI-8330 interface card: 4.2 x 6.9 inches, 0.33 lb
• PXI-8330 interface module: 6.3 x 3.9 inches
Environment:
• Operating temperature: 0 to 50 °C
• Storage temperature: –20 to 70 °C
• Operating humidity: 10 to 90% (non-condensing)
• Storage humidity: 5 to 95% (non-condensing)
Power (PXI-8330 Module):
+5 VDC at 1.5 A
– Key Features
• Transparent PCI-to-PCI bridge requires no additional software or driver modifications
• High-Speed Serial Data Port (HSSDC) 8-pin connector on PXI-8330 module
• All remote devices appear as local devices on the primary PCI bus
• Signal retiming maintains precise timing and high performance across extended distances
– Compatibility & Integration
Supported operating systems: Microsoft Windows (2000, NT4, 9x, XP), Sun Solaris, Apple Mac OS. The system integrates into the MXI-3 innovation master/slave framework. Any PCI-based system with BIOS support for extended bus configurations can control devices across the MXI-3 network.
