The Tektronix TG8000 is a 1RU multiformat test signal generator built on a modular platform for broadcast and video equipment testing. It accommodates up to four user-changeable generator modules, each supporting different signal types—from SD/HD/3G-SDI digital formats to composite and component analog signals, plus audio and synchronization functions. A high-precision internal oscillator delivers stable master or holdover operation. The mainframe integrates 10/100/1000BASE-T Ethernet for remote control and pattern downloads, a front-panel USB port for test pattern management and firmware upgrades, and GPIO interfaces for preset recall and alarm reporting. With 12 available module types covering GPS synchronization, genlock, SDI test generation, analog video, and audio, the TG8000 adapts to both legacy analog workflows and emerging digital standards including 3 Gb/s SDI and Dual Link SDI.
Technical Specifications
The AGL7 Analog Genlock Module provides dual reference inputs via 2× BNC connectors (75 Ω, passive loopthrough) accepting NTSC/PAL black burst or HDTV tri-level sync (720p, 1080i) with amplitude range ±6 dB and S/N ratio >40 dB. Burst Lock and Sync Lock stability is <1 ns for ±3 dB amplitude changes, with jitter <0.5° (Burst Lock) and <1 ns (Sync Lock). SCH phase stability is 0 ±40°, and return loss exceeds 30 dB across 5 MHz to 30 MHz. A separate CW input (BNC, 75 Ω terminated) handles identical sync signals with amplitude range –6 dB to +8 dB and return loss ≥30 dB at 300 kHz to 10 MHz. Three black burst reference outputs are user-selectable for HDTV tri-level or NTSC/PAL formats, with one independent and two distributed outputs.
