The Abaco Systems (formerly VMIC) VMIVME-HSD is a VMEbus interface card that bridges VMEbus systems to Encore HSD and Inter-bus Link (IBL) devices. At its core, the card incorporates a Motorola 68430 DMA controller to enable high-performance 32-bit DMA transfers between VMEbus and Encore ecosystems. The VMIVME-HSD implements full VMEbus interrupter logic and provides interrupt signaling capabilities to the Encore HSD, supporting bidirectional communication and control.

The VMIVME-HSD operates with Encore HSD Model 9132 and Encore Model 9136 Inter-bus Link systems. When deployed in Encore EF “master” mode, the VMEbus processor must support 32-bit transfers into short I/O address space; certain 68020-based CPU boards may not meet this requirement. The card follows standard VMEbus form factors, typically available in 3U and 6U sizes, and integrates into VMEbus backplanes supporting block transfer protocols and multiple data widths.
