The Agilent 53131A is a two-channel universal frequency counter/timer operating to 225 MHz with real-time digital signal processing for accelerated measurement throughput. This bench instrument delivers 10-digit resolution and handles frequency, period, ratio, time interval, pulse width, rise/fall time, phase angle, duty cycle, totalization, and peak voltage measurements. An optional third channel extends capability to 2.7 GHz with the 030 option. Dual input impedance (1 MΩ or 50 Ω switchable), selectable AC/DC coupling, and three sensitivity levels accommodate diverse signal sources. Time interval resolution reaches 500 ps. The unit has been tested and verified operational.
Technical Specifications
Standard two channels measure DC to 225 MHz (DC coupled) or 1 MHz to 225 MHz (AC coupled, 50 Ω). Frequency/period resolution: 10 digits per second. Input voltage sensitivity ranges from 20 mVrms (DC–100 MHz) to 40 mVrms (200–225 MHz), with maximum ±5 V ac + dc. Input impedance selects between 1 MΩ and 50 Ω. Trigger level accuracy: ±(15 mV + 1% of trigger level), adjustable ±5.125 V. Damage thresholds: 5 Vrms (50 Ω) or 350 Vdc + ac pk 0–3.5 kHz (1 MΩ). Low-pass filter at 100 kHz switchable (-20 dB above 1 MHz). Input capacitance: 30 pF. Time base stability (standard): <3 × 10⁻⁷ per month. Optional high-stability oven timebase: <5 × 10⁻¹⁰ per day.
