Equipment info

The Agilent/Keysight 8991A Peak Power Meter is a precision instrument for measuring and characterizing pulsed RF and microwave signals across a 50 MHz to 40 GHz bandwidth (sensor dependent). It delivers simultaneous timing and power measurements critical to radar, wireless communications, and pulsed power applications.

Technical Specifications

The 8991A provides seven automatic timing measurements: rise time, fall time, pulse width, pulse repetition interval (PRI), pulse repetition frequency (PRF), duty cycle, and delay. Five automatic power measurements include peak power, average power, pulse top amplitude, pulse base amplitude, and overshoot. Dynamic range exceeds 45 dB with a minimum pulse width of 20 ns and rise time under 5 ns.

Power measurement spans −33 dBm to +20 dBm (usable down to −40 dBm). Two sensor input channels accommodate compatible peak power sensors. Video input channels (2 and 3) provide DC-coupled bandwidth from DC to 100 MHz for repetitive signals and DC to 1 MHz for single-shot measurements, with vertical sensitivity from 100 mV/div to 500 mV/div and ±1.5% vertical gain accuracy.

Time base range spans 2 ns/div to 5 s/div in 1-2-5 sequence with 100 ps resolution and 0.005% accuracy. Triggering supports up to 100 MHz external pulse repetition rates and 1 MHz internal rates. Offset range provides ±20 Vdc and ±10 Vac capability.

– Key Features

• High-speed/high-sensitivity triggering with glitch capture capability
• Dual-timebase windowing and waveform math functions for scalar pulse parameter extraction
• Measurement statistics and limit testing
• Waveform storage and amplitude/time markers for precise power referencing
• Log display optimization for improved resolution and accuracy with HP 84815A sensor
• Two external triggering/oscilloscope channels

– Physical Characteristics

Dimensions: 422 mm W × 194 mm H × 366 mm D. Weight: 12.8 kg.

– Compatibility & Integration

The instrument interfaces with HP 84812A, 84813A, 84814A, and 84815A peak power sensors.
