Equipment info

The BCP/JDSU Uniphase 320A is an optical-to-electrical receiver that converts low-level optical signals into high-gain electrical outputs for fiber optic communications and test applications. Built around an InGaAs APD detector, it delivers minimum 2000 V/W conversion gain across a DC to 2.5 GHz bandwidth, with typical performance reaching 3.0 GHz and 2500 V/W. The receiver detects signals as low as 100 nW (-40 dBm) and handles high-power inputs up to 1.0 mW (0 dBm) without overload, making it ideal for transmitter waveform analysis and error rate testing on high-speed digital signals.

Technical Specifications

– Key Features

• Automatic DC offset nulling when no optical signal is present
• High sensitivity: detectable down to -40 dBm
• Wide dynamic range accommodates both low-power and high-power inputs
• Optimized for single-mode fiber coupling and standard telecom wavelengths

– Typical Applications

• Transmitter waveform analysis
• Error rate testing
• High-speed optical signal detection and measurement

– Compatibility & Integration

The 320A accepts standard 9/125 µm single-mode fiber via its Diamond universal screw-on connector. Electrical output routes through SMA female connectors to measurement instruments. The unit operates from standard laboratory AC power with low thermal load.
