Equipment info

The HP/Agilent 11690A is a passive frequency doubler that extends the RF output range of signal generators by converting input signals to the second harmonic. Using a balanced diode quad circuit with full-wave rectification, it suppresses the fundamental frequency and generates a higher-frequency output with excellent harmonic rejection. The doubler delivers conversion loss below 13 dB and maintains output flatness within 4 dB across its operating range, making it suitable for RF testing, microwave communications, radar system characterization, and electronic warfare applications requiring precise signal generation at elevated frequencies.

Technical Specifications

Frequency Performance:
• Input frequency range: 200 to 550 MHz
• Output frequency range: 400 to 1100 MHz (up to 1024 MHz with HP 8640 series)
• Conversion loss: 20 dB, 3rd harmonic >25 dB, 4th harmonic >12 dB (relative to desired output)
• Output flatness: <4 dB total variation; 13 dBm
• VSWR (input/output): Typically <2:1 in 50 Ω systems

Power Characteristics:
• Input power range: +10 to +19 dBm
• Maximum input power: +22.5 dBm (180 mW)

Impedance & Connectors:
• Input/output impedance: 50 Ω nominal
• Connectors: BNC (50 Ω mating recommended)
• Uni-directional device; signal applied to male BNC connector

Environmental & Mechanical:
• Operating temperature: 0° to +55°C
• Non-operating temperature: −40° to +75°C
• Dimensions: 2.5 inches (L) × 2.63 inches (Dia.)
• Weight: 2 ounces (56 grams)
• EMI compliance: MIL-I-6181D

– Key Features

• Modulation pass-through: AM reproduced with minimal distortion; FM peak deviation doubles at output
• Compact form factor for bench and system integration
• Optimized for HP 8640 series signal generators
• Made in USA

– Compatibility & Integration

Designed as a direct accessory for HP 8640 series signal generators. Requires 50 Ω input and load termination. Output signals maintain modulation fidelity while extending frequency capability into the L-band region.
