Equipment info

The HP/Agilent 54520C is a 2-channel digitizing oscilloscope delivering 500 MHz analog bandwidth and real-time sampling to 1 GSa/s. Purpose-built for high-speed signal capture and analysis, this instrument combines a color flat-panel TFT display with sophisticated triggering architecture and automated measurement capabilities. The 32 K acquisition memory per channel supports sequential single-shot acquisition for capturing successive transient events without dead time, while 400 Kbytes of sequential capture storage accommodates extended waveform sequences. Peak detect resolution reaches 1 ns for accurate glitch identification.

## Technical Specifications

• **Bandwidth:** 500 MHz analog, 2 channels
• **Sampling Rate:** Up to 1 GSa/s real-time
• **Acquisition Memory:** 32 K per channel
• **Vertical Resolution:** 8-bit
• **Peak Detect:** 1 ns
• **Sequential Capture Storage:** Up to 400 Kbytes of waveform data
• **Waveform Storage:** 4 nonvolatile, 2 pixel (volatile), and segmentable memory for failure analysis and sequential single-shot events
• **Power Requirements:** 115/230 Vac, –25% to +15%, 48 to 440 Hz, 350 VA max

## Key Features

• Triggering modes: edge, pattern, glitch, time-qualified pattern, line, state event-delayed, time-delayed, and TV (NTSC, PAL)
• Time-delayed triggering for precise event isolation
• Standard FFT for spectral analysis
• Autoscale function for automatic vertical, time base, and trigger level configuration
• Automatic waveform measurements
• Built-in 3.5″ DOS-compatible floppy disk drive
• Waveform and setup storage in TIFF, PCX, and EPS formats
• Color flat-panel TFT LCD display

## Typical Applications

High-speed digital signal characterization, transient capture, sequential event analysis, and spectral measurement across telecommunications, instrumentation, and embedded systems development.

## Compatibility & Integration

Supports HP 1144A active probe (800 MHz bandwidth, 2 pF input capacitance, 1 MΩ input resistance) and HP 1145A two-channel active probe (750 MHz bandwidth, 2 pF input capacitance). Remote programming via standard oscilloscope commands documented in the Programmer’s Reference. Firmware revision 2.XX.
