The HP/Agilent 83486A is a dual-channel optical/electrical module that integrates calibrated 3 GHz optical measurement with 20 GHz electrical bandwidth. Designed for the 83480A and Keysight 86100 series mainframes, this two-slot plug-in module enables direct characterization of high-speed communication signals across optical and electrical domains without signal-degrading interconnects. Engineers use it to evaluate optical receiver performance, measure tributary electrical signals, and perform general-purpose oscilloscope analysis on signals from 750 nm to 860 nm optical sources and 50 Ω electrical circuits.
