Equipment info

The IFR Aeroflex RGS-2000 TCAS Reply Generator is a specialized RF interface instrument for testing and calibrating Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) equipment. It simulates TCAS transponder replies to verify operational integrity of TCAS I and TCAS II installations, functioning as an RF component within larger OEM TCAS test stations. The unit decodes Mode S and Mode C interrogations, measures signal characteristics and spectrum content, and simulates up to 154 intruders with realistic target behavior. It provides dual RF antenna ports, GPIB control, and connects to a separate resource panel for discrete, analog, and ARINC 429 interfaces.

Technical Specifications

• Interrogation Decoding: Mode S and Mode C interrogation data with port-to-port relative amplitude and phase measurement
• Pulse Analysis: Peak pulse power, pulse frequency, pulse spacing, pulse width, and rise/fall time measurement and display
• Spectrum Analysis: Interrogation pulse frequency spectrum measurement and display
• Intruder Simulation: Up to 154 simultaneous intruders with Mode S and Mode C instrument replies, Mode S squitter generation, Mode C fruit simulation, and intruder movement trajectory simulation
• RF Interface: Top and bottom antenna ports with antenna port identification resistors and RF signal routing for interrogations and replies
• Control Interface: GPIB (General Purpose Interface Bus) for manual and automated testing
• Display: Electroluminescent flat panel display
• ESD Sensitivity: Contains ESD-sensitive components; requires appropriate grounding precautions and ESD-safe workstations during maintenance

– Key Features

• Integrated signal measurement across amplitude, phase, and frequency domains
• Input network combines bearing simulation module signals for output to TCAS Computer Under Test
• Supports manual operation and automated test sequences via GPIB
• Compatible with TCAS processors from Collins, Bendix/King, and Honeywell

– Typical Applications

• TCAS I and TCAS II processor bench testing and calibration
• Interrogation signal characterization and validation
• Intruder scenario simulation for avionics system verification
• OEM TCAS test station integration as RF interface component

– Compatibility & Integration

Designed as an RF interface module requiring a separate resource panel to provide discrete, analog, and ARINC 429 interfaces. Documentation includes operation manual with ESD precautions and system description.
