Keysight (Agilent) RP7961A Regenerative Power System, 500 V, ±20 A, 5 kW

The Keysight RP7961A is a two-quadrant regenerative DC power system rated for 500 V, ±20 A operation at 5 kW. It functions as both a precision power source and electronic load, returning energy to the grid to reduce operational costs and cooling overhead. The unit delivers 1 ms output response time with sub-millisecond command processing, enabling fast transient simulation through arbitrary waveform generation. Programmable battery emulation up to 50 Ω supports dynamic load testing. A compact 3U form factor (763 × 427 × 132.6 mm) fits standard rack installations. The system accepts 400/480 VAC three-phase input at ±10% and achieves >80% efficiency with 0.99 power factor. Autoranging capability optimizes voltage and current combinations across the operating range. Output ripple and noise measure 500 mV peak-to-peak (100 mV RMS) in constant voltage mode, with ±30 mV load regulation on voltage and ±9 mA on current. Voltage measurement accuracy is 230 mV; programming accuracy is 210 mV. Standard interfaces include GPIB, Ethernet/LAN (LXI Core compliant), and USB 2.0, plus a web browser interface for remote control. Seven user-configurable I/O pins on the rear panel enable custom integration. Up to 15 identical units operate in parallel to reach 200 kW aggregate output. The RP7961A is engineered for HEV/EV power converter validation, energy storage system testing, battery emulation, and power device characterization within automated test environments.
