Equipment info

The Newport 1830-R-GPIB is a single-channel low-power optical power meter engineered for precision measurement across laboratory and production environments. As a redesigned successor to the Newport 1830-C, it delivers a drop-in replacement with enhanced analog output accuracy and full command compatibility with both legacy 1830-C and current 19xx-C systems. The instrument combines a 4½-digit LED display with three computer interfaces—USB 2.0, GPIB (IEEE-488), and RS-232—enabling integration into automated test systems and legacy equipment configurations.

Technical Specifications

• Single-channel configuration with 4½-digit, 7-segment LED display (wide-angle viewing)
• Measurement units: watts, dBm, dB, relative
• Bandwidth: Up to 20 kHz (range dependent)
• Sampling rate: 10 Hz
• Measurement accuracy: ±0.13%
• Gain ranges: Up to 8 decades
• Power sensitivity: Down to 10 pW (detector dependent)
• Full-scale readings: Up to 2 W (detector dependent)
• Detector input: Up to 10 mA
• Analog outputs: 0–2 V into 1 MΩ or 0–1 V into 50 Ω with ±0.5% accuracy
• Wavelength adjustment: 1 nm steps from front panel
• Variable-frequency audible beeper synchronized to incident optical power for beam alignment
• Hot-swappable detector support

– Key Features

• Improved analog output accuracy (±0.5%) compared to 1830-C predecessor
• USB firmware updates without requiring external tools
• Relative power measurements displayed as ratio or dB
• No internal data storage—direct instrument control via computer interfaces
• Full compliance: CE, RoHS

– Typical Applications

Production testing of fiber optic components, optical power characterization in research laboratories, and automated test environments requiring multi-interface connectivity and detector flexibility.

– Compatibility & Integration

Supports Newport photodiode detectors with DB15 connectors, including 818-xx/DB and 918D series (without automatic temperature compensation). Compatible with fiber optic, sphere-based, and calibrated integrating sphere sensors. Operates on 100–120 VAC or 220–240 VAC ±10%, 50/60 Hz. Physical dimensions: 218 × 104 × 191 mm; 2.0 kg.
