The Noyes OLS2 is a hand-held laser light source engineered for insertion loss measurements on single-mode fiber optic links. Operating at 1310 nm and 1550 nm from a single output port, it delivers stabilized laser output with 0 dBm typical power and adjustable output down to -10 dBm, providing over 50 dB range when paired with compatible optical power meters. The instrument supports continuous wave and user-selectable modulated tones at 270 Hz, 330 Hz, 1 kHz, and 2 kHz, plus Wave ID modes (Single, Dual, Triple) for simultaneous multi-wavelength transmission that reduces test time and technician error. Fully N.I.S.T. traceable and powered by 2 x AA alkaline batteries with up to 120 hours of operation, the OLS2 features LED indicators for operating mode, wavelength selection, battery status, and external power presence. Its rugged, hand-held design withstands outside plant environments with splash-resistant controls, glove-friendly operation, and one-meter drop tolerance. Field-swappable UCI-based connectors accept FC, SC, ST, and LC adapters. The unit integrates with optical power meters for loss measurements and optical fiber identifiers for fiber identification, and can test 50 µm and 62.5 µm multimode fiber with supplied mandrels. An optional AC adapter supports extended lab testing.
