The RadiSys EMC-FDM is a Floppy Disk Module that provides floppy disk drive controller functionality for compatible RadiSys embedded systems. This device enables reading and writing of data on standard floppy disks, integrating into modular embedded platforms that require legacy storage support. The module features configurable serial and parallel port interfaces with selectable address and interrupt settings to minimize conflicts in multi-port systems.
Technical Specifications
• Controller Architecture: Floppy Disk Drive Controller based on WD37C65CJM chipset with 16.0 MHz oscillator
• Data Transfer Rate: 500 kb/s maximum
• Power Management: Power-down mode with standby current of 100 µA maximum
• Supported Drive Types: Standard floppy disk drives
– Key Features
• Configurable serial interface via DE9 connector
• Parallel port via DB25 connector with selectable directionality (output, input, or PS/2 bi-directional)
• Parallel port address selection: 378h / Int 7 (LPT1), 278h / Int 5, or disabled
• Serial (COM) port configuration options: 2F8h, 3F8h, or 2E8h
• Interrupt request (IRQ) selection: IRQ 3, 4, or 9
• Form factor optimized for RadiSys modular embedded systems
– Typical Applications
The EMC-FDM serves legacy data transfer and boot operations in embedded systems where floppy disk support is required. It is particularly suited for environments standardized on RadiSys processor modules and backplane architectures.
– Compatibility & Integration
The module integrates with RadiSys embedded modular controllers including the EMC-BP8 and processor modules such as the EPC-21/22, EPC-23, EPC-26A, and EPC-27. Only one floppy disk controller per system can be enabled at any time; systems combining an EMC-FDM with EXM-16 or EXM-MX modules must ensure only one floppy drive remains active. Address and interrupt configuration must be coordinated across all installed serial and parallel port devices to prevent conflicts; unused ports should be disabled.
