The RadiSys EXM-MX / EXM-MX2 Mass Storage Module is a 6U VMEbus-sized expansion unit that increases storage capacity in RadiSys VMEbus embedded PC systems. The module connects via the EXM expansion interface and integrates a disk controller board, hard disk (115 MB to 2.1 GB), and 1.44 MB floppy diskette drive into a single unit occupying two or three VMEbus slots depending on installed disk configuration.
Technical Specifications
Form Factor: 6U VMEbus-size module
Storage Devices:
• Hard disk: 115 MB to 2.1 GB capacity
• Floppy diskette drive: 1.44 MB
Interface Architecture: EXM expansion interface with IDE (Integrated Device Electronics) internal hard drive connectivity. Earlier related models (EXP-MS/MX) utilize SCSI for the internal hard disk.
VMEbus Resource Allocation: Occupies two or three VMEbus slots, determined by hard disk physical dimensions and capacity.
Power Requirements: 5 Volts, 0.5 A
– Key Features
• Three status indicator LEDs: +5V supply status, +12V supply status (required for hard disk operation), and hard disk access indicator
• Front-panel 34-pin connector for external 3.5″ or 5.25″ floppy drives (excluding drives requiring 5V ribbon cable power)
• Front-panel 50-pin SCSI connector for external hard disk expansion (MS-DOS only, up to 2 GB on EXP-MS/MX models)
• Multi-OS support: fully compatible with MS-DOS and all PC operating systems
– Compatibility & Integration
The module mates exclusively to an EXM expansion subplane via a special right-most connector. Compatible with EXM expansion interfaces on EPC4, EPC5, EPC8, and EXP-MC systems when used with EXP-FDM. Single-module limit per system—cannot be paired with EXM-3, EXM-9 disk controllers, or additional EXM-MX series drives. External SCSI hard disk support is limited to MS-DOS environments on EXP-MS/MX configurations.
