The Westermo MD-62 ST 820nm is an RS-232 to fiber optic converter engineered for point-to-point industrial communication. It transmits serial data over single-mode or multimode fiber, achieving transmission distances up to 25 km while maintaining immunity to electrical interference. The converter supports data rates to 115.2 kbit/s and operates transparently across all character codes.
The MD-62 uses ST connectors at 820 nm wavelength and features galvanic isolation rated at 1500 V RMS (AC models) or 500 V RMS (DC models). Its asynchronous transmission mode supports full duplex, half duplex, or simplex operation, with status signal transfer capability. The unit configures as DCE (Data Communication Equipment) via RS-232 interface, accepting either a 9-position D-sub female connector or detachable screw terminal.
DIN-rail mounting enables rapid integration into control cabinets and industrial panels. Front-panel indicators display power status, transmitted data from fiber (TD), received data from RS-232 (RD), request-to-send (RTS), and clear-to-send (CTS). Configuration uses DIP switches located under an accessible lid.
