Equipment info

The Anritsu 69187A Ultra Low Noise Synth Sweep Generator is a microprocessor-based RF instrument engineered for applications demanding exceptional signal purity and frequency stability. Operating from 0.01 GHz to 60 GHz, it delivers synthesized CW and swept outputs with phase noise performance of -100 dBc at 10 kHz offset from 10 GHz. The instrument supports four independent sweep modes—analog, step, manual, and alternate—with switching times below 40 ms to within 1 kHz of final frequency. Twenty presettable CW frequencies (F0–F9, M0–M9) enable rapid configuration for multi-frequency test sequences.

Technical Specifications

Frequency & Output Power
• Frequency range: 0.01 GHz to 60 GHz
• Output power: -125 dBm to +17 dBm maximum; leveled power guaranteed to +17 dBm up to 20 GHz
• Output impedance: 50 Ω
• Frequency resolution: 1 kHz (0.1 Hz with Option 11)

Phase Noise & Spectral Purity
• Ultra-low SSB phase noise: -100 dBc at 10 kHz offset from 10 GHz
• Low spurious signal content

Sweep Capabilities
• Analog sweep: Full range continuous with independently selected sweep widths from 1 MHz to full span
• Step sweep: 1 to 10,000 steps with user-selectable step size or step count; dwell time 1 ms to 99 seconds
• Manual sweep: Stepped phase-locked frequency adjustment between limits
• Alternate sweep: Two independent ranges with selectable power levels per range
• Maximum switching time: <40 ms typical to within 1 kHz; step sweep <15 ms + 1 ms/GHz or <40 ms typical

Frequency Accuracy & Stability
• Internal time base aging: <2×10⁻⁸/day (Option 16: <5×10⁻¹⁰/day)
• Temperature stability: <2×10⁻⁸/°C over 0–55 °C (Option 16: <2×10⁻¹⁰/°C)
• Frequency accuracy matches internal or external 10 MHz reference

Modulation
• Internal AM, FM, phase modulation, and pulse modulation
• Seven modulating waveforms including Gaussian noise; user-defined arbitrary waveforms supported
• Pulse modulation: Doublet, triplet, or quadruplet pulse generation for RADAR testing
• Simultaneous synchronized modulations enabled

– Key Features

• Twenty independent presettable CW frequencies for rapid test switching
• Trigger options: Auto, external TTL, or single-shot
• Microprocessor control for high-resolution phase-lock synthesis

– Typical Applications

RF component characterization, receiver sensitivity testing, RADAR system validation, phase noise measurement, and broadband signal generation across microwave and millimeter-wave bands.

– Compatibility & Integration

External trigger input via AUX I/O supports automated test sequences. Accepts internal or external 10 MHz time base references for synchronized multi-instrument configurations.
