The Anritsu MS46122A is a 2-port Vector Network Analyzer from the ShockLine series, engineered for cost-effective RF and microwave component characterization. This PC-controlled instrument leverages VNA-on-chip technology to deliver reduced cost and enhanced accuracy across manufacturing, research, and development workflows. It measures all four S-parameters (S11, S21, S22, S12) plus user-defined combinations of incident and reflected wave amplitudes, with optional time-domain capability.
## Technical Specifications
Three frequency variants address different measurement requirements: 1 MHz to 8 GHz, 1 MHz to 20 GHz, and 1 MHz to 43.5 GHz (specifications above 40 GHz are typical). Dynamic range reaches 100 dB with a maximum measurement level of 115 dBm. Measurement speed is 220 µs per point, supporting up to 16,001 points per graph.
Source power is selectable at -3 dBm or -20 dBm, with maximum output at -3 dBm. Receiver linearity extends to +5 dBm compression point at 40 GHz. Directivity achieves 42 dB with manual calibration and 50 dB with the AutoCal module. Port match exceeds 8 dB across the frequency range. The internal 10 MHz crystal oscillator reference signal provides the basis for all specifications.
## Key Features
• Compact 1U chassis: 328 × 61 × 198 mm, weighing 2.2 kg
• N(f) connectors for 8 GHz models; reinforced K(m) connectors for 20 GHz and 43.5 GHz models
• USB control from 64-bit Windows PC; includes 10 MHz external reference input and trigger input
• 19″ rack mount hardware included
• Operating temperature range: 0°C to +50°C; specifications valid at 25°C ± 5°C
## Typical Applications
Designed for S-parameter measurement of RF and microwave components in manufacturing quality assurance, research prototyping, and component development environments.
## Compatibility & Integration
Shares the same GUI software environment as the ShockLine VNA family. Supports fast calibration via the 36585K AutoCal module (up to 40 GHz), the MN25208A 2-Port SmartCal USB unit (8.5 GHz), and mechanical calibration kits including 3650A, 3650A-1, and 3652A models. Note: The MS46122A series has been discontinued; the MS46122B serves as the replacement model.
