Equipment info

The Avcom PSA-65C is a portable spectrum analyzer designed for RF signal analysis in various professional applications. This instrument offers a broad frequency range and multiple resolution bandwidths to accommodate diverse signal monitoring and troubleshooting needs. Its design prioritizes portability, with options for battery or line operation, making it suitable for field use.

### Technical Specifications

* **Frequency Range:** 1 to 1250 MHz. The analyzer can also detect signals from less than 1 MHz. Frequency measurements are accurate to 100 KHz when in ZERO SPAN mode.
* **Span:** The SPAN control adjusts the horizontal sweep presentation from 1250 MHz (125 MHz/div) down to 0.2 MHz (0.2 MHz/div). The maximum span is described as “Greater than 1250 MHz – 0”.
* **Resolution Bandwidth (RBW):** Available RBW options include 3 MHz, 1 MHz, 300 KHz, 150 KHz, and 10 KHz. The SPAN control automatically selects the optimum IF resolution filter.
* **RF Sensitivity:** The typical RF sensitivity is greater than -90 dBm.
* **Reference Levels:** Selectable reference levels include +20, 0, -20, and -40 dBm, which also correspond to +69, +49, +29, and +9 dBmv respectively.
* **Vertical Scale:** The vertical scale can be set to 2 dB/Div or 10 dB/Div. The 2 dB/Div setting is useful for observing very small signals.
* **Amplitude Accuracy:** Typical amplitude accuracy is ± 2 dB.
* **Dynamic Range:** The on-screen dynamic range is 65 dB.
* **Input Connector:** A BNC connector is used for RF input, which is DC blocked and 50 Ohm.
* **Display:** The instrument features a 5-inch diagonal CRT with green phosphorous. A microprocessor enables the LCD to display center frequency, span settings, and start/stop frequencies.
* **Audio Demodulator:** Includes a built-in FM Audio Demodulator for monitoring transmissions after they are observed on the display, useful for locating electronic listening devices. An AM Detector is also included to “hear” the vertical deflection of the CRT trace, originally designed for detecting RF leaks.
* **Zero Span Switch:** A unique zero-span switch allows for instant monitoring of transmissions as soon as a signal spike is tuned to the center of the display.

### Electrical and Power

* **Power Requirements:** Operates on 85-265 VAC, 50/60 Hz, or 12 VDC. A vehicle power cable is included.
* **Internal Battery:** Features internal rechargeable batteries and a charger. A minimum of three hours of charging is recommended before battery operation, with 80% charge achieved in six hours and full charge overnight.
* **External Power:** Supports an external 11.5-15 VDC power source via a DC jack, which also charges the internal batteries.

### Physical Characteristics

* **Dimensions:** 11.5″ W x 5.5″ H x 13.5″ D.
* **Weight:** 17 lbs (7.72 kg). An older version may list 18 lbs / 8.18 Kg.

### Interfaces

* **RF Input:** BNC connector.
* **Auxiliary Socket:** Supports optional accessories.
* **DC Power Jack:** For external power and battery charging.
* **8-Pin Modular Port:** Present on the rear apron, possibly for an Analyzer Display Adapter (ADA-10A).

### Operational Features

* **Portability:** Designed for field testing, with a lightweight and user-friendly interface.
* **Controls:** Includes controls for Power, Tuning, Reference Level, Span, Vertical Sensitivity, Sweep Rate, Vertical Position, and Intensity.
* **Display Information:** The microprocessor-driven LCD displays center frequency, span settings in MHz/Div, and start/stop frequencies.

### Compatibility

* **Accessories:** Compatible with accessories such as the ADA-10A Analyzer Display Adapter, AVPAK Carrying Case, BNG-1000A Broadband Noise Generator, and MFC Frequency Extenders.
