Equipment info

The HP/Agilent 5087A Distribution Amplifier is a precision signal distribution instrument that accepts multiple input frequencies and delivers up to twelve synchronized outputs with exceptional signal integrity. Operating at 10 MHz, 5 MHz, 1 MHz, or 100 kHz, the unit accommodates input levels from 0.3 to 3.0 Vrms across up to three rear-panel BNC input channels and provides individually adjustable outputs from 0 to 3 Vrms into 50 ohm loads. The modular architecture supports flexible input and output conditioning through optional amplifiers and dividers, enabling tailored configurations for demanding metrology, telecommunications, and research applications.

Technical Specifications

Input Stage
• Up to 3 rear-panel BNC channels
• Supported frequencies: 10 MHz, 5 MHz, 1 MHz, 100 kHz
• Input level: 0.3 to 3.0 Vrms
• Input impedance: 50 ohms (1000 ohms on special order)
• Optional input conditioning: preamplifier (0.1–10 MHz), dividers, and doubler modules

Output Stage
• Up to 12 output channels
• Output level: 0 to 3 Vrms individually adjustable into 50 ohm loads
• Optional output amplifiers for 10 MHz, 5 MHz, 1 MHz, and 0.1 MHz

Signal Integrity & Performance
• Amplitude stability: ±0.5 dB over 0 to 50 °C
• Phase stability: <0.1 ns/°C at 5 and 10 MHz; <0.5 ns/°C at 1 MHz; <5 ns/°C at 100 kHz
• Load isolation (amplitude): <0.1 percent change
• Load isolation (phase): <0.1 ns at 5–10 MHz; <0.5 ns at 1 MHz; 145 dB below signal in 1 Hz bandwidth (>1 kHz offset)
• Short-term stability degradation (5 MHz): 40 dB below rated output
• Spurious phase modulation (10 Hz–50 kHz): >80 dB below rated output
• Channel-to-channel crosstalk: -60 dB
• Injected signal rejection: >60 dB across outputs (>50 dB on 10 MHz channel)

Power Requirements
• AC input: 115 or 230 VAC ±10%, 48–440 Hz, 20 VA maximum
• DC input: 22–30 VDC, 600 mA maximum
• Internal regulated power supply with line-voltage insensitivity

– Key Features

• Modular input/output amplifier architecture for application-specific frequency conditioning
• Exceptional phase stability across temperature extremes
• Superior harmonic and spurious rejection for low-noise distribution
• High channel isolation and load immunity for independent output control

– Typical Applications

• Calibration laboratory timing networks
