Equipment info

The LeCroy DDA-120 Disk Drive Analyzer is a four-channel color oscilloscope purpose-built for high-speed disk drive signal analysis and diagnostics. It delivers 8 GS/s single-channel sampling with Random Interleaved Sampling reaching 25 GS/s, paired with up to 16 Mpts acquisition memory and advanced trigger intelligence for capturing transient disk drive events and characterizing signal integrity across multiple data and control lines simultaneously.

Technical Specifications

Acquisition
• Bandwidth: DC to 1 GHz at 50 Ω; DC to 500 MHz typical at 1 MΩ; 1 GHz with optional AP020 FET probe
• Sample rates: 8 GS/s (1 channel), 4 GS/s (2 channels), 2 GS/s (4 channels); RIS to 25 GS/s
• Memory: 16 Mpts standard (4 Mpts per channel); dynamic allocation via SMARTMemory
• Vertical resolution: 8 bits native; up to 11 bits with ERES digital filtering
• Input impedance: 1 MΩ // 15 pF (50 Ω ±1% selectable)
• Maximum input: ±5 V DC at 50 Ω; 400 V max at 1 MΩ

Vertical and Horizontal
• Sensitivity: 2 mV/div to 1 V/div (50 Ω); 2 mV/div to 10 V/div (1 MΩ)
• DC accuracy: ±(2% full-scale + 1.6% offset) above 10 mV/div
• Timebase: 200 ps/div to 1000 s/div; Manual Roll 500 ms/div to 1000 s/div
• Up to 4 zoom traces for time-domain expansion

Triggering
• Edge, Glitch, Pattern, State, Time-out, TV, Pulse Width, Dropout, and Interval triggers
• SMART Pattern, Width, and Interval triggers for automated detection
• Qualified triggering on secondary source conditions
• Sensitivity: 0.5 div (DC–500 MHz), 1 div (500–750 MHz), 2 div (750 MHz–1 GHz)

– Key Features

• Four independent digitizers enable simultaneous multi-channel disk drive protocol capture
• Input coupling options: AC (>10 Hz), DC, GND
• Offset range to ±20 V with active probes across full sensitivity span
• RIS mode extends effective time resolution for repetitive waveforms

– Typical Applications

• Read/write channel signal validation and characterization
• Timing and jitter analysis on disk drive data lines
• Error identification and root cause investigation
• Signal quality assessment for SATA, SAS, and legacy drive interfaces

– Compatibility & Integration

Works with PP005 standard probes (1 MΩ // 15 pF) and AP020/AP022 active probes for 1 GHz bandwidth and extended offset range.
