Equipment info

The Marconi IFR Aeroflex 6845R is a multifunction microwave system analyzer integrating a synthesized source, scalar analyzer, and spectrum analyzer in a single instrument. Operating from 100 Hz to 40 GHz, it delivers >80 dB instantaneous dynamic range and spurious measurement capability to better than -60 dBc, making it ideal for RF and microwave component characterization across frequencies, modulation formats, and network parameters.

Technical Specifications

Frequency Coverage
• Spectrum analyzer: 100 Hz to 40 GHz
• Scalar analyzer: 10 MHz to 40 GHz
• Synthesized source: 1 MHz to 3 GHz (integrated RF synthesizer); 3 GHz and above (VCO-based)

Spectrum Analysis
• Instantaneous dynamic range: >80 dB
• Resolution bandwidth filters: 3 MHz to 1 kHz
• Marker capability: Two steerable markers
• Spurious measurement performance: Better than -60 dBc on full-span sweeps

Scalar Analysis (Three-Input)
• Frequency range: 10 MHz to 40 GHz
• Insertion loss measurement range: >80 dB (with tuned input)
• Return and insertion loss measurement: Simultaneous display
• Detector correction: EEPROM-corrected detectors

Synthesized Source
• Frequency resolution: 1 Hz
• Phase noise: Low phase noise design
• Tracking generator mode: Up to 46 GHz
• Source offset capability: Any frequency offset or frequency multiple of receiver tuned input

Modulation Capabilities
• Amplitude modulation: 0–99.9% depth, <3% distortion at 1 kHz (≤80% depth), usable to 2 GHz (carriers <1 GHz)
• Frequency modulation: 0–100 kHz deviation, ±5% accuracy at 1 kHz, 1 dB bandwidth DC–100 kHz (DC coupled) or 10 Hz–100 kHz (AC coupled)
• Phase modulation: 0–10 radians, ±5% accuracy at 1 kHz, <3% distortion at 10 radians at 1 kHz

– Key Features

• Continuous full-band sweeps for harmonic and spurious analysis
• Low distortion front end enabling high-accuracy spurious measurements
• Excellent third-order intermodulation intercept point
• Selectable resolution bandwidth filters for adaptive measurement

– Typical Applications

• RF and microwave component characterization
• Subsystem and system signal analysis
• Mixer, upconverter, and downconverter evaluation
• Network characterization and insertion/return loss measurement
• Modulation analysis and spurious content verification

– Compatibility & Integration

Part of the 6840 product family, the 6845R integrates spectrum analysis, scalar network analysis, and signal generation in a single platform, reducing bench footprint and measurement setup complexity.
