Equipment info

The Microchip/Datum 6502B is a 1U rack-mountable RF distribution module that delivers ten buffered outputs at unity gain with exceptional signal integrity. Ten low phase noise amplifiers provide channel isolation exceeding 100 dB while maintaining harmonic distortion below −40 dB and non-harmonic signals below −80 dB. Each input and output features an alarm indicator for loss of signal or insufficient amplitude detection. The module accepts a 1 Vrms nominal input signal and reproduces it across all ten 50 Ω BNC outputs with virtually no degradation, even when cascaded with additional 6502B units to achieve 100 or more total outputs. Additive phase noise remains exceptionally low across the operating band: −120 dB at 1 Hz, −135 dB at 10 Hz, −145 dB at 100 Hz, −155 dB at 1 kHz, and −160 dB at 10 kHz offset from carrier (1 Hz bandwidth). A Form-C relay contact alarm output with disable switch provides system-level fault monitoring. The unit operates from 120 or 230 V AC (±15%), consuming less than 10 W, or accepts optional DC input from 22 to 56 V DC at 10 W. Compact dimensions of 19 inches width by 10 inches depth fit standard 19-inch racks in minimal vertical space. Operating temperature range spans 0°C to 55°C with humidity tolerance to 95% non-condensing. Daisy-chaining up to ten modules enables expansion to 100 outputs; outputs may also serve as sources for additional 6502B units for near-infinite expansion capability.

– Key Features

• Individual and summary alarm outputs with Form-C relay contacts (fail-safe, energized at normal operation)
• Red LED indicators on all inputs and outputs for real-time signal presence and amplitude monitoring
• Daisy-chain support for ten units to deliver 100 outputs
• Expandable architecture—outputs may drive additional 6502B modules
• Selectable input impedance (50 Ω or unterminated)
• Detachable AC power cord serves as disconnect device

– Typical Applications

• Precision RF signal distribution in measurement and test systems
• Multi-channel reference signal distribution for synchronized instrumentation
• Frequency standard distribution in atomic clock and oscillator networks
• High-isolation buffering for sensitive RF circuits

– Compatibility & Integration

The 6502B integrates into 19-inch standard racks and cascades with identical units via output-to-input chaining. Outputs drive 50 Ω loads and maintain performance when used as source signals for downstream 6502B modules.
