The Microchip/Datum PC03V is a double-height VMEbus time code processor that decodes and translates multiple serial time code formats for precision synchronization in VMEbus-based systems. It processes IRIG A, IRIG B, IRIG G, 2137, XR3, and NASA 36 time codes in forward and reverse directions at real-time and non-real-time tape speeds. The module maintains time of day with 1 microsecond resolution at real-time rates using a synchronized 1 MHz time base reference, and carrier cycle resolution (1 millisecond typical for IRIG B at 1 kHz) for non-real-time playback.
Technical Specifications
• Accepts carrier frequencies from 250 Hz to 500 kHz
• Time of Day (TOD) resolution: 1 microsecond at real-time rates; carrier cycle resolution for non-real-time rates
• Time base reference: Synchronized 1 MHz for real-time processing
• Time capture via four 16-bit output registers
• Zero latency access to decoded time
• Continuous time maintenance from microseconds to days
– Key Features
• Translates six time code formats (IRIG A/B/G, 2137, XR3, NASA 36)
• Bidirectional time code processing (forward and reverse)
• Supports variable playback speeds: slower or faster than real-time
• Two programmable time coincident strobes/interrupts
• Programmable heartbeat pulse/interrupt
• External event time capture with interrupt capability
• Internal handshake protocol prevents data corruption during state changes
• VMEbus READ access to time capture registers at module base address
– Typical Applications
• Data logging with accurate time stamping
• Process control synchronization
• Communication system timing
• Magnetic tape search and playback operations
