The Newport 842-PE is a handheld optical power and energy meter engineered for precision measurement across ultraviolet to infrared wavelengths. Equipped with a Windows CE™ menu-driven interface and 3.5-inch backlit graphical LCD, it delivers 0.01% resolution and up to ±0.5% accuracy in continuous wave mode. The meter supports CW, pulsed, and RMS measurement modes with sampling rates to 50 kHz, accommodating repetition rates up to 390 kHz with photodiode detectors or 3 kHz with pyroelectric detectors. Power measurements span 5 pW to 10 kW; energy measurements range from 1 µJ to 20 kJ—both dependent on selected detector. Statistical analysis includes line plots and histograms with selective data cancellation and zeroing functions. Internal flash and RAM storage hold up to 275,000 measurement points; data transfers via USB or RS-232 to external systems.
