Equipment info

The Octagon Systems PC-510 is a mobile industrial computer engineered for harsh-environment deployment in transportation, manufacturing, and field operations. Built on an AMD 5×86 133 MHz processor with Pentium-class performance, it delivers real-time computing in a rugged form factor supporting DOS 7.1, Windows NT, and QNX. On-card architecture enables OEM customization while reducing design complexity and cost. The PC-510 combines solid-state storage, local-bus SVGA graphics, and extensive I/O connectivity—including six serial ports and 48 lines of programmable digital I/O—to address mobile and stationary industrial applications demanding reliability across extended temperature ranges.

Technical Specifications

Processor: AMD 5×86 133 MHz; equivalent to 75 MHz Pentium performance; 3.3 V operation with integrated power management.

Memory: Up to 48 MB EDO DRAM; standard 1 MB surface-mount configuration; DIMM-based expansion with mechanical shock/vibration restraints; commercial-grade modules rated 0° to 70° C.

Storage: 2.5 MB on-board solid-state disk. SSD0: 32-pin DIP socket for M-Systems DiskOnChip (1–32 MB), flash, SRAM, and EPROM to 512 KB. SSD1: 2 MB flash (BIOS, DOS, file system); approximately 1,856 KB user-accessible via Phoenix PICO FA with automatic wear leveling.

Graphics: Local-bus SVGA with hardware accelerator; 2 MB video RAM; dual CRT and flat-panel simultaneous operation; 12 V backlight connector and 3.3 V logic support; variable bias source capability; programmable Video BIOS.

Serial Ports: Six 16C550-compatible ports, 16-byte FIFO, programmable to 115 kbaud. COM1–4: RS-232. COM5: Jumperable RS-232 or GPS module. COM6: Jumperable RS-232 or RS-485 networking. Opto-isolated; IEC-1000 rated ±8 kV with back-drive protection.

Digital I/O: 48 lines, bit-programmable, TTL-compatible; ±15 mA source/sink; pull-up/pull-down selectable; Octagon MPB series opto-module compatible pinout.
