The RadiSys EXM-23 LCD Controller Expansion Module is a 16-bit universal VGA interface card for embedded systems requiring LCD display integration. Built around the Chips and Technologies 65535 controller, it delivers full IBM VGA standard compliance with support for monochrome, grayscale, and color LCD panels. The module provides all necessary data and control signals, paired with an adjustable power supply spanning -40V to +40V for LCD bias and backlight drive requirements. Video memory is configurable at build time—512 bytes using a single 256K × 16 fast page mode DRAM, or 1 MB using dual fast page mode DRAMs. Video BIOS is stored in either a 27C010 32-pin DIP EPROM or optional 27C256 28-pin DIP EPROM, supporting monochrome, passive and active color, and electroluminescent display modes. The EXM-23 interfaces via a female shielded mini-D-50 connector for panel connection and integrates directly into RadiSys EXM expansion carriers using an ISA-bus-equivalent interface.

– Compatibility & Integration
The EXM-23 operates within RadiSys EXM expansion carriers supporting up to 8 expansion modules per system. Standard PC software executes directly on ISA-equivalent bus architecture. The module is incompatible with EPC-2E, EPC-3 (built-in VGA controllers cannot be disabled), and EPC-6 (slot size constraints).
