The Rohde & Schwarz Polyskob SWOB5 is a precision sweep frequency generator covering 0.1 MHz to 1000 MHz, engineered for RF component testing, alignment, and characterization across manufacturing, R&D, and laboratory settings. The instrument delivers flexible sweep operation across its full frequency range or with continuously adjustable sweep widths, supporting both broadband measurements (5 MHz to 1000 MHz) and narrow-band operation (approximately 300 kHz to 50 MHz maximum). CW mode disables sweep functionality, enabling continuous tuning from 0.1 MHz to 1000 MHz for signal generation applications.
The 28 cm long-persistence display presents frequency coverage with a bright-up bar indicator on the lower scale edge. Pulse or line markers with continuously adjustable amplitude facilitate frequency-axis orientation, while a manually tunable bright-up marker momentarily halts sweep operation to enable external frequency counter triggering via the RF monitoring output. External markers may be fed into the instrument. Sweep time adjusts continuously from 20 ms to 2 seconds.
The receiver architecture combines a measuring head with a plug-in deflection amplifier section supporting single or dual-channel linear and/or logarithmic configurations. Dynamic range reaches approximately 70 dB with the active demodulator SWOB5-Z4 at maximum 50 mV driving level, or 76 dB at 1 V output voltage (rear-panel selectable). The RF output connector is N-type male at 50 Ohm impedance.

– Compatibility & Integration
Measuring heads—termination units, insertion units, and probes—are available as modular accessories. Deflection amplifiers function as interchangeable plug-ins. Model variants include the E2 (linear amplifier) and E3 (logarithmic amplifier) configurations. The SWOB5-Z4 active demodulator option extends dynamic range performance.
