The Sumitomo Electric Fusion Splicer Type-36 is a portable, fully automatic fusion splicer engineered for creating low-loss optical fiber splices in field and factory environments. Built around a dual microscope core alignment system with mirror-free fiber observation and HDCM image processing software, it delivers precise core alignment and real-time splice loss estimation. The unit splices single-mode, multimode, dispersion-shifted, dispersion-compensated, cut-off-shifted, and Er-doped fibers with typical splice losses of 0.02 dB or less for SMF, 0.01 dB for MMF, and 0.05 dB for DSF. Average splicing cycle time is approximately 25 seconds for identical fibers.
