Equipment info

The DynamicSignals/Kinetic Systems 3992-Z1A is a three-wide CAMAC Serial Highway Driver module that enables bidirectional serial communication over the CAMAC Serial Highway interface. It transmits command messages and receives Reply and Demand messages, with dual parity checking (transverse and longitudinal) on all incoming traffic. The module interfaces directly to the CAMAC Dataway through six dedicated registers, supporting network architectures from 1 to 62 crates. Clock control is flexible—select from an internal crystal oscillator, variable-frequency oscillator, or external source, all operating up to 5 MHz. The 12-bit LAM and LAM Mask registers provide selective interrupt handling with full masking and clearing control. Reply message timing ranges from coincidental with serial command space-bytes to 186 bytes post-completion. Status flags indicate transmission completion and reply receipt. Conforms fully to IEEE-583 and IEEE-595 CAMAC specifications.

## Technical Specifications

• Module Type: Three-wide CAMAC Serial Highway Driver
• Interface: CAMAC Serial Highway with bit-serial and byte-serial ports
• Compliance: IEEE-583, IEEE-595
• Clock Frequency Range: 1 kHz to 5 MHz (crystal and variable-frequency oscillators); external source to 5 MHz
• Registers: Six (Command, Write Data, and four others for Dataway communication)
• LAM/Mask Registers: 12-bit configuration with selective set/clear operations
• Parity Checking: Transverse and longitudinal on received messages
• Network Capacity: 1 to 62 crates per Serial Highway
• Reply Message Latency: Coincidental to 186 bytes after command completion
• Power Supply: +6 V @ 2800 mA; −6 V @ 50 mA
• Weight: 1.6 kg (3 lb. 8 oz.)
• Power-Up State: Module initialized to predefined default configuration

## Key Features

• Flexible clock sourcing with internal crystal, VCO, or external timing
• Dual-parity validation (transverse and longitudinal)
• Selective interrupt masking via 12-bit LAM control
• Condition flags for real-time transmission and reception status
• Compatible with Type L-2 Serial Crate Controllers in loop configurations

## Compatibility & Integration

The 3992-Z1A operates in CAMAC crate systems supporting IEEE-583 and IEEE-595 protocols. It integrates with L-2 Serial Crate Controllers for loop-based configurations and accommodates multi-crate networks up to 62 units.
