The HP/Agilent 54701A is a 2.5 GHz active probe designed for high-fidelity signal acquisition in high-speed digital and analog measurements. Operating with a 10:1 attenuation factor, the probe delivers minimal circuit loading through 100 kΩ input resistance and <0.6 pF input capacitance, preserving signal integrity on the device under test. Its rise time of <140 ps and bandwidth extending to 2.5 GHz support measurement of fast transients with ±1% flatness for edges ≥3 ns. The probe accepts input signals up to ±200 V (DC + peak AC <20 MHz) and provides ±50 V DC offset adjustment at the probe tip. Peak AC dynamic range reaches ±5 V at 2.5 GHz with 50-Ω termination. ESD tolerance of ±12 kV (150 Ω/150 pF) protects against transient overvoltages. Power is supplied directly from compatible oscilloscopes such as the HP 54700 Series, or via the optional HP 1143A Probe Offset Control and Power Module. Output connects via Type-N connector with supplied adapter to BNC instruments.
