The National Instruments VXI-1394 is an IEEE 1394 (FireWire) interface module that bridges PCI-based computers with external VXI systems. It functions as a Slot 0 VXI controller, enabling high-speed bidirectional data transfer, DMA operations, and direct trigger/interrupt control between the host computer and VXI mainframe. The module leverages custom MITE and MANTIS ASICs to deliver sustained throughput of 11 Mbytes/s across a flexible cabling topology supporting up to 16 daisy-chained IEEE 1394 devices.
