The Newport 4832-C is a PC-based multi-channel optical power meter delivering simultaneous measurements across up to four configurable channels. Its distributed architecture separates sensitive analog circuitry and pre-amplifier boards in a remote breakout box from the host PC, connected via shielded twisted-pair cable to minimize noise and ensure measurement integrity. The system employs dual analog-to-digital converters—a 15-bit integrating A/D for precision DC measurements and a 12-bit high-speed A/D for rapid sampling—enabling flexible resolution and acquisition strategies. An ISA bus plug-in board with dedicated on-board processor manages auto-ranging, data acquisition, and communication to the host computer. Measurements output directly in watts or amps, with post-processing conversion to dB or dBm units.
