Equipment info

The Sorensen SGA160-31C is a 5 kW programmable DC power supply engineered for high-performance industrial and laboratory applications. This analog-controlled unit delivers 160 V at 31 A maximum output, combining precise voltage and current regulation with low noise and exceptional load transient response. The SGA160-31C operates from 3-phase AC input (200–240 V nominal) and features 10-turn potentiometers for manual voltage and current adjustment, backed by a 3½-digit LED readout. Single units scale to 30 kW within a chassis, and multiple chassis can be paralleled to reach 150 kW or higher, making the SG Series adaptable to growing power demands.

Technical Specifications

• Line regulation (current mode): ±0.05% of full scale (±10% input variation, constant load)
• Load regulation (voltage mode): ±0.02% of full scale (no load to full load)
• Load regulation (current mode): ±0.1% of full scale (no load to full load)
• Stability: ±0.05% of set point after 8 hours warm-up at fixed line, load, and temperature
• Current ripple (current mode): <±0.04% of full scale RMS

Dynamic Response & Thermal
• DC voltage slew rate: 100 ms (5–95% of full scale typical)
• DC current slew rate: 45 A/ms typical
• Efficiency: 87% typical at nominal line and maximum load
• Temperature coefficient (voltage): 0.02%/°C of maximum output voltage rating
• Temperature coefficient (current): 0.03%/°C of maximum output current rating

Output Characteristics
• Remote sense provided for load-point voltage regulation
• Output float voltage: negative terminal within ±150 V of chassis potential

– Key Features

• Analog front panel controls—straightforward 10-turn potentiometer adjustment
• High power density with modular architecture (1–6 modules per chassis)
• Scalable configurations: single units to 30 kW, paralleled systems to 150 kW or beyond
• Precision load transient response and low output noise
• Fast current slew capability (45 A/ms) for dynamic test scenarios

– Typical Applications

Electric vehicle charging system validation, solar inverter testing, industrial motor drives, telecommunications equipment qualification, and aerospace power distribution testing.

– Compatibility & Integration

Remote sense terminals enable accurate voltage regulation at distant loads. Output floats ±150 V from chassis ground, supporting both single-ended and differential load configurations.
