Equipment info

The Keysight/Agilent/HP 8082A is a dual-channel pulse generator delivering precise, variable pulse signals from 1 kHz to 250 MHz across six ranges. It generates pulses with widths as fast as 2.4 ns to 0.5 ms, adjustable delays from 2 ns to 0.5 ms, and transition times under 1 ns. The instrument produces outputs up to ±5 V with selectable ECL levels (-0.9 V to -1.7 V typical) and includes a 50 Ω source impedance matched output stage rated for short-circuit and open-circuit protection.

With period, width, and delay jitter specifications of <0.1% of setting +50 ps, the 8082A excels in digital circuit characterization, logic testing, and high-speed signal development. It supports normal self-contained operation, external trigger mode, gate mode, external width mode, and single/double pulse generation up to 125 MHz. Overshoot and ringing remain below 10% of pulse amplitude, with 5% preshoot. The dual three-step attenuators reduce outputs to 1 V, while a common vernier control extends minimum output to 0.4 V. An adjustable offset reaches +2 V into 50 Ω loads. Fixed delay between trigger and pulse output is approximately 17 ns.
