The Keysight RP7953A is a 10 kW regenerative power system delivering bidirectional DC power in a single 3U rack-mountable chassis. Operating from 0 to 950 V and ±20 A, this two-quadrant instrument functions simultaneously as a precision power source and electronic load. The regenerative architecture recovers energy during load operation, returning approximately 90% of power to the 200–208 V 3-phase AC grid at >85% efficiency—dramatically reducing operational costs and cooling requirements.

Designed for high-power battery characterization, power conversion testing, and transient simulation, the RP7953A delivers command processing in ≤1 ms with voltage accuracy of ±0.03% + 120 mV and current accuracy of ±0.1% + 12 mA. Autoranging output expands the voltage/current envelope within rated 10 kW power. Load regulation measures 60 mV typical (voltage) and 9 mA typical (current), with output ripple and noise at 1000 mV peak-to-peak and 200 mV RMS.

Battery emulation capability includes programmable source resistance to 50 Ω for simulating different states of charge and impedance profiles. An integrated arbitrary function generator enables transient testing via step, constant dwell, and list-based waveforms (up to 512 steps). The unit sustains continuous sink operation at 100% rated current indefinitely. Safety integration includes anti-islanding logic to confirm grid presence before regeneration. Input requirement is 11.5 kVA at 0.99 power factor. Weighs 31.8 kg.
