The Rohde & Schwarz VCA Digital Video Component Analyzer is a specialized instrument for comprehensive analysis of digital video signals in broadcast, production, and studio environments. It functions as both a waveform monitor and analyzer, combining measurement and display modes to support fast, in-depth analysis of signal data content and frame syntax validation.
Technical Specifications
Supported Standards & Signal Processing
• CCIR 601/656
• SMPTE 125 M/259 M
• 8-bit and 10-bit signal processing
• 625/525 line formats
Analysis Capabilities
The VCA performs timing and level measurements, chrominance/luminance gain and delay error detection, and data content analysis with numeric dump functionality for precise error identification. Jitter analysis includes continuous time-domain display within selectable intervals, synchronization to any line, frame, or four-frame boundary, and detection of signal-dependent jitter effects. Jitter/spectrum analysis covers spectral display from 10 Hz to 8 MHz. Level triggers identify errors and reserved codes; TRS triggers detect faulty track/reference signal data. Real-time error rate and history displays monitor sync frame accuracy. Qualitative analog assessment detects rise times below minimum thresholds with adjustable averaging to reduce noise.
Digital Transport Layer Analysis
DTL analysis with professional jitter measurements available via optional VCA-B1 module.
Return Loss Measurement
Optional VCA-B11 SWR Bridge provides 75 Ohm impedance measurement across 5 to 850 MHz.
