Equipment info

The Measurement Computing USB-1208FS is a USB-powered multifunction data acquisition device that combines flexible analog I/O, digital control, and counter functionality in a single bus-powered unit. It delivers software-selectable analog input configurations, dual analog outputs, 16 TTL-level digital lines, and a 32-bit counter—all synchronized through a common SYNC terminal for multi-unit operation.

Technical Specifications

Analog Inputs
• 8 single-ended (SE) or 4 differential (DIFF) channels via software selection
• SE Mode: 11-bit resolution, ±10 V input range, 122 kΩ input impedance
• DIFF Mode: 12-bit resolution, software-selectable ±20 V / ±10 V / ±5 V / ±4 V / ±2.5 V / ±2.0 V / ±1.25 V / ±1.0 V ranges
• Programmable gain amplifier on differential channels up to 20× gain
• Absolute maximum input voltage ±28 V (CHx to GND)
• Aggregate scan rate: 50 kS/s maximum total across all channels

Analog Outputs
• 2 channels, 12-bit resolution
• Output voltage: 0 V to 4.096 V or 0 V to 5 V
• Single-channel update rate to 10 kS/s; dual-channel to 5 kS/s each; continuous hardware-paced to 50 kS/s per channel

Digital I/O
• 16 TTL-level lines in two 8-bit ports (A and B), independently configurable as input or output
• Port B offers high-current drive at 24 mA
• Input thresholds: 2.0 V high, 0.8 V low
• Output voltage: 3.0 V minimum high (IOH = -2.5 mA), 0.4 V maximum low (IOL = 2.5 mA)
• Default pull-up to V_S through 47 kΩ resistors; hardware-selectable pull-down available

Counter & Synchronization
• 32-bit counter, TTL-level pulse input, up to 1 MHz maximum frequency
• SYNC terminal for external clocking (up to 50 kHz) and multi-unit synchronization
• Rising-edge trigger on counter input

Acquisition Modes
• Software-paced single-sample acquisition
• Hardware-paced continuous block transfers with external TTL trigger support

– Key Features

• No external power required—full operation from USB bus
• Bidirectional synchronization for networked data acquisition
• Flexible input gain and range selection optimized for sensor signal conditioning
• Dual-port digital architecture supports independent timing and logic control

– Typical Applications

• Portable laboratory measurement and sensor integration
• Real-time process monitoring and control
