Equipment info

The NI PXI-1409 is a monochrome image acquisition module for machine vision and scientific imaging applications. It digitizes video from standard and non-standard cameras—including RS-170, CCIR, NTSC, PAL, line scan, progressive scan, and VGA formats—using a 10-bit ADC with selectable 8-bit or 10-bit output. The module delivers 60 dB dynamic range (1,024 gray scales) and supports pixel clock rates from 2 MHz to 40 MHz, with internally generated clocks from 11.0 to 25.8 MHz. Four video inputs and four configurable I/O lines enable flexible triggering and synchronization. A genlock circuit locks to standard video, progressive scan, VGA, or external sync signals.

Technical Specifications

• ADC Resolution: 10-bit internal; selectable 8-bit or 10-bit output via lookup table
• Dynamic Range: Up to 60 dB (1,024 gray scales)
• Supported Video Standards: RS-170, CCIR, NTSC, PAL
• Camera Types: Monochrome (standard and non-standard), line scan, progressive scan (up to 60 frames/s), VGA
• Pixel Clock Range: 2 MHz to 40 MHz (external); 11.0 to 25.8 MHz (internally generated)
• Video Input Bandwidth: 30 MHz typical
• Input Impedance: 75 ohms
• Onboard Memory: 16 MB SDRAM for image buffering
• Data Transfer: PCI interface, maximum 132 MB/s bus master mode
• DMA: Three independent controllers with scatter-gather capability
• Region of Interest (ROI): Supported for optimized data transfer
• Lookup Table: 1024 × 10-bit for contrast enhancement and gamma correction

– Key Features

• Genlock synchronization to video, progressive scan, VGA, or external HSYNC/VSYNC/CSYNC
• Four independent video inputs and four external I/O lines
• 16 MB onboard SDRAM supports multiple image buffers and unlimited acquisition window sizes
• Scatter-gather DMA for continuous transfer to contiguous or fragmented memory buffers

– Typical Applications

Machine vision inspection, scientific imaging, high-speed line scan acquisition, progressive scan capture.

– Compatibility & Integration
