The Tektronix 7844 is a dual-beam oscilloscope mainframe that accepts up to four 7000-Series plug-in units for customized signal analysis across laboratory, research, and industrial applications. Its dual-gun CRT with full-overlap screen enables simultaneous observation and comparison of two independent signals, while separate vertical and horizontal deflection systems provide flexible measurement configuration. The instrument achieves bandwidth up to 400 MHz with compatible plug-ins, delivering 0.9 ns rise time, and can be extended to 1 GHz using direct-access 7A21N deflection-plate connections. A high-speed CRT with dome-shaped scan-expansion mesh captures fast transients, supported by pulsed graticule and CRT readout for single-shot photography. The 7844 features fastest calibrated sweep speed of 1 ns/Div, beam isolation exceeding 100:1 from DC to 150 MHz, and X-Y phase shift below 2° from DC to 50 kHz. Its modular architecture and full horizontal crossover capability—allowing either beam to sweep from either time base unit—deliver the flexibility required for complex waveform analysis and diagnostic applications.
